The octogenarian Harle Tinney has joined InStory to develop a focus on her retirement choices. Harle Tinney is the last survivor of an industrious family, whose diverse projects she desires to memorialize.

Together with her husband, the renaissance man and artist Donald Harold Tinney, she was for 52 years the driving force at Belcourt Castle. Harle Tinney was a tour guide, restorer, woodcarver, gilder, stained glass artist, musician, historian and archive manager, event hostess, cook, caterer, wedding coordinator, bookkeeper, and business manager.

Her husband Donald Tinney died on January 16, 2006. Harle continued to reside at Belcourt Castle and wrote a book “The Ghosts of Belcourt Castle”. In 2012 she sold Belcourt Castle and moved to nearby Middletown. Her second book “Belcourt Castle: Milestones and Memories” was self-published in 2018. In early 2019, a film based on her story, called “Newport Castle”, written by Karen Iacobbo, owner of The Providence Lyceum, was screened in the Hoboken Film Festival.

Harle presents historical lectures relating to Belcourt Castle and historic Trinity Church in Newport. She improved her book “The Ghosts of Belcourt Castle” in 2020 for a third edition. In 2021 she advertised her new project to preserve the Gold Coronation Coach built fifty years ago by the Tinney Family, and make it available for photoshoots and weddings.

Devorah Spillman has been an inspiration to Mrs. Tinney to stretch her various talents into a practical inspiration for women whose lives are changing after 50.
